President Mike Borfitz called the meeting to order at 7:01

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the attendees

Mike welcomed all new members and guests

Three new members introduced themselves

We have 802 paying members

From the beginning of the year we have entertained 244 visitors

Certification:  Dick Besler

Dick reported that we certified 25 members in January. The February certification will be on February 13th.   Dick thanked the members for being considerate regarding keeping the noise level down during certification.  There will be certification classes on February 20th and one in March.  These classes will bring us up to date and then there will only be one each month.

Monitor classes are on the 12th and 19th of February and three will be held in March.  In April the monitoring classes will go back to the old schedule of the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.  All students are asked to arrive before 4pm, as the doors are locked at 4.

A new video is being made for the certification class and monitoring classes to make everything updated.

Office Administration:  Anne Bell (Jim Spallone)

Jim asked that the members help out when visitors come in for a tour.  The carvers have been great pitching in, but it would be a great help to the front desk if some of the members stepped up to the plate and gave tours when needed.

Special Projects: Bob Thompson (Mike Borfitz)

Special Projects has a chest of drawers, two coffee tables, one drop leaf table, head and foot boards for a bed and a sewing machine cabinet that no one will be picking up.  Mike went to “Bargains and Treasures” to see if they would be willing to sell these items for us.  They will be in on Friday to look at them and take what they can.

Colonial Days: Mike Borfitz

The woodshop has been extended an invitation to participate in the annual Colonial Day which will be held at Brownwood on Wednesday April 2nd.  Mike had power point presentation (copy in the file).

The Board passed a resolution allowing the woodshop to sell some of our handmade items.  There was great interest last year regarding the purchase of the things we had on display.  Anyone wanting to donate their time to making some items to sell, please see Charlie Murry, who has agreed to head this program.  The members would be reimbursed the money for the supplies and the rest would go to the club.  It was mentioned that the smaller items seem to sell better such as card holders and wedges.

Mike is going to try for 3 display tables this year instead of two.

Education: Bob Mathews

There will be some new classes coming up due to the fact that we have some new instructors.  One class will be in basic spindle turning at the end of February.  There will be some classes in Keltic Knots with Tom Davis staring with beginners and moving to advanced work.

Safety: John Herega

On Monday night there was an accident on the table saw in one of the classes being held.  John showed the pictures of the table saw and what was done incorrectly.  The saw caught the board at the wrong angle which was being cut at a 15 degree angle. John showed pictures and explained the correct way to use this table saw.  This table saw blade tilts to the right instead of the left like the other two tables we have.  The fence must be moved to the other side of the blade and the guard must always be in place.  There is a video in the library on the table saw.  If you are not sure how to use it, take the time to look at the video.

The Turners will meet on Tuesday’ February 18, at 7pm at the shop.  Andy McTear and Charlie Murry will be demonstrating a new casting procedure.

CPR classes are being held on February 25, which is full at this time.  There will be two classes in March, on the 4th and 25th.  New members are welcome.  The cost is only what the instructor has to pay for the ID cards.

Walter from maintenance mentioned the he has found several machines running with no one there.

Red flashing lights are being installed on the band saws so everyone will see when a machine is still on.  If everyone cleaned up after themselves they would notice that the machine was off or still on.
