Board of Directors Meeting

November 15, 2018

 

Call to Order

A board of directors meeting of The Village Woodshop was held on November 15, 2018 at 704 Oak Street, The Villages Florida.  It was called to order at 7:00 PM and was presided over by John Herega - Chairman, Byron Porter - Secretary. A quorum was met and established.

Approval of Previous Minutes
A motion to approve the minutes of the previous October 25, 2018 meeting was made by; Harm Borfitz and seconded by, Conway Williams; the minutes were unanimously approved by all with any additions and/or corrections.

 

Old Business

 

Officers’ Reports

Chairman Report was presented by John Herega.

·         John will not be here for the rest of the year.  Mike Cromwell will fill in for John Herega.

·         John Herega has asked Mike Cromwell to be chairman of the board, it will have to be voted on at the January Meeting.

·         The next BOD Meetings will be December 17.

 

President Report was presented by Mike Borfitz

·         Mike was asked to present to the villages a list of all items to be used in the new shop.

·         The scroll clock will be put on EBay for sale.

·         Daily Sun is running an article on people whose fathers taught them wood working and are now passing it on to their children. If you know of anyone that would like to share their past wood working experiences, please let Mike know.

·         We need people to volunteer to help special projects.

 

Vice President Report was presented by Jim Spallone

·         A Colonial Days meeting will be held one week after Thanksgiving. Jim would like everyone involved to attend.

 

Treasure Report Presented by Jim Spallone for Doug Parks

·         See The Village Woodshop Club’s Server for the Treasure Report Details.

·         Glenn Croteau presented a motion to except the Treasure Report as presented; it was seconded by Harm Borfitz and unanimously approved by all.

·         Jim Spallone presented a budget for the year 2019. See The Village Woodshop Club’s Server for the Treasure Report Details. This budget was reviewed and modified by the Department Managers.  This budget does not reflect any expenses for the new shop. The new shop will have its own budget when it opens.

·           A motion to approve the 2019 budget as amended was made by, Harm Borfitz and seconded by, Conway Williams; the budget was unanimously approved by all with any additions and/or corrections.

·         The Laser Power Source for the epilog system needs to be evaluated for replacement. The cost should be moved from the 5 year Capital Plan and put into the 2018 budget. Mike Cromwell presented a motion that based on the maintenance findings of the problems associated with the epilog unit that we will spend up to $3,000 for repairs. The motion was seconded by Harm Borfitz; and was approved by a majority vote. Bob Bell being the only vote in abstention.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

·          The 5 year capital plan as presented was amended to remove the cost for the Laser Power Source from this plant. See The Villages Club’s Server for details. A Motion was presented by Harm Borfitz to except the 2019 capital plan as amended and seconded by Conway Williams and was unanimously approved by all.

 

Office Administration Presented by Anne Bell

·         To date we have 944 dues paying members; of the members who have paid their dues 317 members are staying with the old shop. 190 members are moving to the new shop.

·         We need to remember that we need a large sub list in order to run the shop. It is important to fully staff the shop with monitors and still have a large sub list.   

 

Shop Administrator Presented by Glenn Croteau and Dave Adamovich

·         Alvin Coreblum presented a motion to buy the Panto Router System from Skip Banks for $1,250; it was seconded by Sandy Moraco and unanimously approved by all.

 

Safety Committee Presented by John Herega for Harm Borfitz

·         The November and December safety meetings have been canceled

·         The instructors need something in writing to tell them what the proper procedures to be followed are in the event of an accident.

 

Toys Presented by Conway Williams

·         November 8th - toys on the square was rained out.

·         Toy production is shaping up to make the 2018 year our largest production and contribution year ever.

 

Other Reports

·         Urns to Military – We have changed the way we are distributing urns to the Cemeteries.
