Board of Directors Meeting

October 25, 2018

 

Call to Order

A board of directors meeting of The Village Woodshop was held on October 25, 2018 at 704 Oak Street, The Villages Florida.  It was called to order at 7:00 PM and was presided over by John Herega - Chairman, Byron Porter - Secretary. A quorum was met and established.

Approval of Previous Minutes
A motion to approve the minutes of the previous September 27, 2018 meeting was made by, Sandy Moraco and seconded by, John Scott; the minutes were unanimously approved by all with any additions and/or corrections.

 

Chairman Comments

 

Old Business

·         The present drum sander is expensive to run and maintain. The drum sander needs to be replaced with a belt sander which would be more cost effective.

 

Officers’ Reports

 

Chairman Report was presented by John Herega.

·         BOD Meetings will be November 15, and December 17.

·         Bob Bell presented a motion to hold the Board of Directors Meeting on Monday, December 17; it was seconded by Mike Cromwell and unanimously approved by all.

·         A Special BOD Meeting may be called in early December to ratify next year’s budget.

·         Color copies for the printer are very expensive; $0.10 per copy for color and $0.03 per copy for black and white. The cost of printing manuals should be part of the training course expense.

·         John suggests that next year we raise initiations fee by $5.00 to cover copy fees.

 

President Report was presented by Mike Borfitz

·         Second Shop – The Sumter Landing Community Development District Board has accepted the land for the second Workshop.

·         Ron Badami has a number of items for the Christmas Raffle. Tickets will go on sale early November.

·         Sandy Fuller and Julie Sullivan are working on the Special Olympic Christmas Tree. They are requesting help with ornaments from the club.

·         Bob Thompson has requested help to place a tree in The Baker House. He was wondering if we would be willing to decorate a tree featuring our wooden toys that could be purchased by patrons visiting the home.

·         Jim Spallone has agreed to chair Colonial days which will take place on Friday, January 18th.

 

Vice President Report was presented by Jim Spallone

·         Colonial Days are under way; Stephen Yovan has started to collect items for the auction.

·         The pens program needs more volunteers and on November 8th and 9th they are holding a turning party for pens. Any help will be appreciated. Ron Gammon and Frank Giaccone need to be commended for all the pens they have created.

 

Treasure Report Presented by Jim Spallone for Doug Parks

·         See The Village Woodshop Club’s Server for the Treasure Report Details.

·         Mike Cromwell presented a motion to except the Treasure Report as presented; it was seconded by Harm Borfitz and unanimously approved by all.

·         Jim Spallone presented a preliminary starting budget for next year which was last year’s actual plus 5%. This preliminary budget needs to be reviewed and modified by the Department Managers.  John Herega has requested to have the completed budgets back by the November BOD meeting.

 

Office Administration Presented by Anne Bell

·         35% of dues have been paid to date.

 

Shop Administrator Presented by Glenn Croteau and Dave Adamovich

·         Alvin Coreblum presented a motion to buy the Panto Router System from Skip Banks for $1,250; it was seconded by Sandy Moraco and unanimously approved by all.

·         Deborah Larouere needs to be informed about a Panto Router Training Class.

·         Disk Sander is down and cannot be repaired.

·         Glenn Croteau presented a motion to allow maintenance to replace the disk sander, the cost of the replacement is not to exceed $1,500; it was seconded by Conway Williams and unanimously approved by all.

 

Safety Committee Presented by John Herega for Harm Borfitz

·         Instructors need to be brought up to date on safety issues. Instructors need a contact list on who to call in case of an incident.

 

Toys Presented by Conway Williams

·         The toy department was present on October 11th at Brownwood Paddock Square. The toy department had a good night with sales of $209 and cash donations of $122.

·         The Village’s Entertainment Department has presented the toy department with its 2019 calendar for Toys on the Square.

·         The toy department continues to make progress producing 7,540 toys for the year.

·         The toy department has shipped 5,566 toys to clients in 2018 with a donation value of $42,535.00

·         The Toy team also had the opportunity to be trained on and participate in production using some of the shop’s newly acquired technology.
