General Meeting of the Villages Woodshop Club

Meeting called to order at 7:00PM

 

Mike Borfitz, President, led the pledge of allegiance followed by a moment of silence.

Introduction of new members and guests: – New members and visitors were welcomed and asked to state their name and tell a little about themselves.

Mike’s Announcements:

·         Saturday was cleanup day. After they finished cleaning up the maintenance people set the alarm, locked the door and left. About 11:00 P.M. community watch called and told Jim Spallone the back door was left open. The lights in the front office were on and the alarm was off. If anyone has any idea how this happened please let Mike know.

 

General Announcements:

·         Glenn Croteau  

Ø  26 people worked to clean up the shop. Glenn wanted to thank all the maintenance volunteers for their good job.

Ø   Please clean up after yourself and be watchful of other people who make a mess and do not clean up.

Ø  Chuck Caulkins will take over the responsibility for the bins from Bob Behrens.

Ø  The free material is now on a cart outside the doors of the office.

Ø  Before 8:00 A.M. the maintenance crew is getting everything ready for the day’s activities. Please do not come into the shop until after 8:00 A.M. to allow them to do their job.

Ø  Maintenance people will be wearing blue tags. If you need help, ask anyone of these people.

 

·         Max Bohnsted gave a talk on the history of the VWC.

Ø  In 2001 idea of the club was born in 2004 the doors to the woodshop were opened to members and have steadily moved forward from this point.

Ø   Max hopes to pull the history of the club together and place it on the web site in digital format.

 

·         Lowell Sundermann gave a talk on the progress of the CNC machine and its abilities.

Ø  He showed an example of a sign that was made on the CNC

Ø  He asked people to sign up for the course.

 

·         Andy gave a demonstration on what he terms as the cosmic cloud.

Ø  With the help of Judy Meyers and Connie Medao they gave a demonstration on applying iridescent paint with the help of shrink wrap paper on a black paint.

Open floor to questions:

 

Show and tell –

·         Andrea Leone presented a wood poster made from Pine and Red Wood.

·         Walt Wanner showed a 29” bowl that he made from mahogany and maple.

·         Skip Banks presented two bowls. One in which he used CNC machine and the panto router to cut the patterns into the bowl and a second bowl was made by edge cutting the different sections.

·         Connie Madeo Presented some bowls she made.

·         Steve Yovan presented a bowl he made from North Islands Pine.

 

50/50 Drawing:  The club took in $70 and. Prizes were - $20, $20, $20.
