General Meeting of the Villages Woodshop Club

Meeting called to order at 7:00PM

Mike Borfitz, President, led the pledge of allegiance followed by a moment of silence.

Introduction of new members and guests: – New members and visitors were welcomed and asked to introduce and tell a little about themselves.

Mike’s Announcements:

Ø There will be no General Meeting of the VWC in July 2019. Our next meeting will be Aug 13, 2019

Ø  Mike asked everyone to read the Department Report Article entitled salute the Maintenance Department.

Ø Mike introduced Rick Perice a member of the VWC and a Construction Manager by trade.

 General Announcements:

· Rick brought us up to date on the process required to take a planning concept and turning it into an actual build.

Ø The new Shop is a partnership between the Villages Builder, The Village Recreation Department and the Village Woodworking Club.

Ø He stressed the need for communication from the VWC to the other groups involved in order to schedule the project in logical steps and achieve our overall objectives during the planning stage. It was important that the Villages understand what equipment we required and the proper lay out of the building in order to achieve maximum efficiency.

Ø He showed the architect’s plans and explained how the flow of the building will work.

Ø Rick believes we are about ½ way through the design project.

Ø The next phase which is site construction should begin in 60 to 90 days. 

Ø In April or May of next year we should be setting up the equipment in the new building.

Ø The ground floor of the building will be 10,080 sq. ft and the mezzanine will add 3,186 sq. ft. The building will be on about 1 ½ acres of land.

Show and tell –

· Steve Mendelsohn showed some carvings he made from wood and softballs. He wanted people to know that in the spring the carving group will be giving lessons on how to carve simple things. Steve also presented Celtic love spoons.

· Dominic Attili reinforced the carving classes. He presented some snow men and Christmas ornaments he made. He emphasized if you join the carvers and you could learn to carve items like this on your own.

· John Herega presented 2 large light houses he made for his Granddaughter. One was a Harley Davidson theme and the other was a red white and blue theme. John also presented 3 bowls he produced made from cedar.

·  Dick Lang presented a mockingbird and a flower which he carved from wood.

· Tom Miller had three bowls on display these bowls inspired Skip Banks to learn bowl turning.

50/50 Drawing:  The club took in $200 and. Prizes were – $20, $20, $20, $20, $20
