General Meeting of the Villages Woodshop Club

Meeting called to order at 7:00pm. 

 

What to Expect Tonight –   President Mike Borfittz explained the new meeting format; providing a handout of department reports, following with question and answers, and then moving on to presentations. 

Pledge of allegiance with a moment of silence and an offering up of prayers and thoughts for those in our club membership and their families.  

Introduction of new members and guests - New members and visitors, were welcomed and asked to introduce and tell a little bit about themselves. 

 

General Announcements

 

Dick Besler, explained that members have experience a problem with their personal credit cards, when charging items from Penn State. Penn State is an approved vendor for the club and we have never had any problem with them. Penn State has assured the club that they will work with members via their customer service department to resolve any issues they may have. 

 

Mike advised;

·         Folks to purchase their Christmas party tickets. To date 193 seats have been sold and they are going fast.

·         Since there is a problem with sharpening of turning tools, Tom Miller will be conducting 2 classes a month of 3 people, on how to properly sharpen turning tools, between now and Memorial Day 2018.

·         Told members to remove personal items stored in the library, as it will be cleaned out over the holidays.

·         Toys needs volunteers to turn approximately 400 handles for jump ropes.

 

Elliot Schantz thanked members for helping with the veterans for pens project, as well as for those who donated pen blanks. He ran out of kits at 117. He will be taking the pens to Woodcraft tomorrow. He challenged members to turn at least one pen per month, to reach goal of having 150 pens for veterans by Memorial Day 2018.

 

Presentation slides by Bob Beherns on “Who is Who” in the Maintenance Department and an overview of the “Do’s and Don’ts” in the Shop.  Bob announced they are looking for ¾ inch black pipe for clamps.  If anyone knows of a vendor, let him or Dave know. He also introduced the new Track Saw. 

Chairman of the Nomination Committee -  Ray Roberts:  Introduced the three-nominee’s running for three-year Board of Directors seat they are; Alvin Corenblum, Mike Cromwell and John Scott. Introduced Byron Porter, will be secretary, if no one steps forward. The President, Vice President, Treasure are running unopposed.

Questions and Answers:  No one presented any questions.   

Show and Tell –  Tom Miller shared his 3-d checkered board cutting board. Doug White shared his maple, oak and walnut cutting boards. Eric Lungsberg brought in custom, handmade carpentry tools, he made many years ago. Bob Behrens’s shared the updated Tool Crib Index, completed by Mrs. Beherns and available for members in the crib or in the break room.

50/50 Drawing: The club took in $110 dollars in chances sold and the club retained $55. Winners; Conway Williams $20, Ron Valli $20 and Tom Miller $5.00.

Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:00pm.
