General Meeting of the Villages Woodshop Club

Meeting called to order at 7:00pm.       

Mike Borfitz, President, led the Pledge of allegiance with a moment of silence and an offering up of prayers and thoughts for those in our club membership and their families.  

Introduction of new members and guests - New members and visitors, were welcomed and asked to introduce and tell a little bit about themselves. 

 

 Mike’s Announcements:

·         Nancy Blackmore, is heading up Colonial Days scheduled January 9th in Brownwood and needs more volunteers.

·          Hoe Down Days is scheduled January 27th, this year only toys will be participating. They have made more kits for the children to put together this year. Anyone interested in volunteering, see Conway. 

·         Club needs another financial assistant for this summer, any volunteers to see her or Doug Parks. 

·         Mike gave the Club’s “State of Union” address, which can be read on our website at

2018 Elections and Voting

Ray Roberts, Chairman of the Nominations Committee announced the candidates running for the following “unopposed” positions;

Officers for 2018: President, Mike Borfitz - Vice President, Jim Spallone - Treasurer, Doug Parks and Secretary, Byron Porter (not in attendance).

Board of Directors for 2018 thru 2021: Alvin Corenblum - Mike Cromwell - John K. Scott.

Quorum was established based on the members in attendance and they voted yes to all the above running for Officer and Board of Director. Secretary, Patty Porter, cast one vote for each office. Therefore, the above named are the 2018 Officers and Board of Directors for 2018 thru 2021. 

Department Reports of January 09, 2018 was handed out to members when they arrived, see same for complete update.     

Questions and Answers:  No one presented any questions.

Show and Tell –  Dave Adamovich, brought in side board, he designed and built out of cherry with ebony handles. He used box joints on the drawers, mortis, and tendon on the table. Beautiful!   Andy McTear brought in a beautiful “inny” segmented bowl. He announced that Steve Eichenberry will teaching a few bowl classes and Stephan Youvan and Paul Porter teach segmented platter class, if anyone is interested. Voyteck, who is a new member and woodworker, brought in lovey inlay round end tables made of walnut and maple. The inlays were of small seabirds.  Amazing work for a new woodworker!

Elliot Schantz stood up and announced that he challenged members to turn at least one pen per month, to reach goal of having 150 pens for veterans by Memorial Day 2018. 

Bill McGinnis, outgoing Chairman of the Board, thanked all previous Officers and Board members for their dedication and service. And thanked all managers for their continued hard work and service.  Explained that our key volunteers function like 12 to 15 full time employees.  Our club operates like a small business and we should be very grateful for all the volunteers, that make our club what it is.

50/50 Drawing: The club took in $148 dollars in tickets sold and the club retained $75. Gave away $20 to three winners and $13.00 to one winner. 

Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:13pm.
