IT Committee Meeting Minutes

January 5, 2016

Present:  Anne Bell, Mike Borfitz, Dick Hartley, Bill Pappas, Jim Spallone, Steve Yovan, Hans Zassenhaus

 

The IT Committee met on January 5, 2016 at 700PM.   In the absence of a chair for the committee, Mike Borfitz provided the agenda and led the meeting.

The objectives for the IT Committee/Department were revisited.  Agreement was reached that the objectives of the Committee are as follows:

·        To provide Information Services to support VWC activities;

·        To establish knowledge/back-up in each IT area at least two people deep;

·        To strive for simplicity and open communication within the department; and

·        To assess current capabilities and recommend future improvements for VWC

Significant events since the last IT meeting included:

·        The resignation of Paul Porter as chair of the committee/department and resignation of Ed Ott as hardware support.

·        Purchase of one new computer placed at the front desk.

·        Suspension of trying to improve security through assignment of passwords; current system does not lend itself to this approach.

·        Resolution of internet problems  since newest modem was installed

 

The future direction for the Committee includes:

·        Maintaining a common operating system and platform, assessing new operating systems and applications on a constant basis – currently  Windows 10 and Microsoft 2016.

·        Mike Borfitz agreed to chair the committee for the near future.

·        Area leads will provide descriptions for back-ups in each area.

·        Ed Ott will be asked to order LogMeIn for five computers.

·        Mike Borfitz will begin recruiting members with IT experience and/or interest to fill the back-up positions.

Monthly meetings will take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:30 at the Woodshop.
