General Meeting of the Villages Woodshop Club

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM

 

Mike Borfitz, President, led the pledge of allegiance followed by a moment of silence.

Introduction of new members and Guests:

·         New members and visitors were welcomed and asked to introduce and tell a little about themselves.

Mike’s Announcements:

·         Second Shop:

o   PWACK unanimously approved the second wood shop and on Thursday of this week the Sumpter Landing District will earmark the money for the building.

o   Please be patient with the overcrowding of the club as we are trying to build up membership to populate the second shop when it opens.

o   Responsibility for new shop will be broken down somewhat as follows:

§  The Morse family provided the land. The district will own the shop and maintain the outside of the building along with the parking lot. The VWC will be responsible for everything inside the building. The VWC will be spending about $500,000 to cover equipment, machinery, etc. The new shop will have about 13,000 sq feet.

o   When the shop opens, we hope to have about 1,300 members.

 

·         Pens for the troops. –  The VWC made a total of 636 pens for the year, making a grand total of 1,404.

·         Deb Larouere gave a talk of the new mentoring prototype program.

·         Florida State Fair has sent applications for any woodworker who would like to enter a project.

·         Stephen Yovan because of the quantity of lumber purchased by the VWC. The supplier awarded us 3 turkeys which were then raffled off.

Show and Tell-

·         The following items were made and displayed by the members:

o   An inlaid cutting board.

o   Spoons carved out of cherry and walnut.

o   A box made on the CNC Machine from a flat piece of wood.

o   A Segmented bowl

o   A Federal Period Piece Table

o   Lid cover holder and a pin cushion

o   Musical Instrument - Ukulele and a Mandolin.

 

·         50/50, Drawing:  The club gave out prizes of - $25, $25, $20
