PROPOSAL TO MODIFY THE 2011- 2012
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BUDGET
PURPOSE
Currently the remaining Delta lathe is out of service due to the failure of the motor. The
cost to replace the motor will exceed $900.00 (including shipping.)
The current capital improvement budget contains an amount of $500.00 to replace a mini
lathe during the fourth quarter of 2011 and an amount of $5200.00 to replace the Delta
lathe in the second quarter of 2012.
Due to the age and condition of the Delta lathe, the members of the turners group and the
maintenance personnel feel that the VWC would be better served if we do not repair the
Delta but replace it with a new lathe. And at this time it is not necessary to replace the
mini lathe; it was felt that we will not have to replace the mini lathe until late 2012, at the
earliest. There is a consensus within the turners group that the Jet lathes have served us
very well and we should replace the Delta with another JET instead of purchasing
expensive Powermatic
PROPOSAL
Reschedule the purchase & replacement of the Delta lathe from the second quarter of
2012 to the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2011. This will allow for the new lathe to
be installed in time for the increased demand of the lathes during the winter months.
Reschedule the replacement of the mini lathe to the fourth quarter of
